What pork chop cuts can be used in an air fryer?
You can use any cut of pork chop in an air fryer, including thin or thick cuts, ones with bones or without. The only thing to consider is that cook times will vary depending on the cut you choose, and some may be drier than others. Thicker, bone-in cuts take longer to cook, but are moister. And boneless, thin cuts can dry out easily, but cook quickly. Just keep this in mind when you choose.
Bone-in vs. boneless pork chops
The major difference is that bone-in pork chops are going to be less dry. The bone and fat in these cuts provide extra flavor and release moisture, which can prevent chops from getting dry. That said, lean, boneless pork chop cuts have some great advantages, too. If not overcooked, they aren't overly dry, and they cook in 10 minutes, which helps to put dinner on the table in under 30 minutes. I cook both bone-in and boneless pork chops depending on how much time I have to cook dinner and what's available in the store when I am shopping.
Seasoning for Air Fryer Pork Chops
While I make my own seasoning, other store-bought seasonings can also be used. BBQ rub, steak seasoning, Fajita seasoning, Berbere, and if you are looking for something special, you can try this Ancho Espresso Coffee Rub.
If you choose to try my seasoning mix, simply store the leftovers in a small jar, and add it to other recipes, such as grilled veggies, shrimp, or chicken.
Main Ingredients
- Pork Chops. I explained which pork chop cuts to use in detail above.
- Olive Oil. I used olive oil. Other kinds can also be used.
- Seasonings. Oregano, paprika, garlic powder, brown sugar, chili powder, sea salt, and black pepper.
How to make Air Fryer Pork Chops
1. To a small bowl, add all of the seasonings and mix well. Set aside.
2. Place the pork chops on a large cutting board and pat dry with paper towels on both sides.
3. Brush the pork chops with olive oil on both sides.
4. Season the pork chops with the seasoning mix on both sides.
5. Air fry at 400F for 7-15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the pork chops. Let them rest for a few minutes and serve.
Helpful Tips & Tricks
- Pat the pork chops dry. Doing this will remove excess moisture that will make it difficult for the oil to stay on the chops.
- Preheat the air fryer. Always preheat the air fryer so it is at the right temperature when you add the pork chops, so they crisp up a little.
- Vary cook time based on thickness. The thickness of the pork chop, as well as the type of air fryer you use, can vary the cook time. Use a meat thermometer to make sure the internal temp is at least 145ºF.
- Let them rest. If you cut into the pork chop while it's fresh out of the air fryer, all the juices will run out, making it dry. Wait to cut and serve so they can be reabsorbed.
Variations to this Recipe
- Use frozen chops. Just pat them dry thoroughly to remove any excess moisture and add time to the cooking time to account for thawing.
- Add other seasonings. You can also make this with a barbecue rub, fajita seasoning, steak seasoning, cayenne pepper, Berbere, or this Ancho Espresso Coffee Rub.
- Dredge them in flour. You can dredge the pork chops in flour with the seasoning to give them a little more crispness. Or you could use Panko for extra crunch.
- Add Parmesan cheese. Make this recipe with some Parmesan cheese for an added nutty, cheesy flavor to your pork chops.
How to Store and Reheat it
Store any leftovers of these Air Fryer Pork Chops in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. You can also freeze them for up to 3 months. To reheat, just preheat your air fryer and then cook them for 3-5 minutes, until crisp and warmed through.
What to Serve these Air Fryer Pork Chops with
- Pasta. Serve these chops with some Easy Angel Hair Pasta, Spaghetti with Olive Oil and Garlic, Mushroom Spinach Pasta, or Creamy Roasted Pepper Pasta.
- Vegetables. Pair these Air Fryer Pork Chops with some vegetables, like this Steamed Broccoli Rabe, Roasted Asparagus, Simple Sautéed Vegetables, or Garlic Roasted Brussels Sprouts.
- Potatoes. Twice Baked Potato Casserole, Pan-Fried Parmesan Potatoes, and Roasted Baby Potatoes taste great with this dish.
