Tips for the best Tuna Fritters

    • Drain the tuna well. Drain as much water as possible out of the tuna cans so that the tuna can more easily mix with the other ingredients. Too much water will make the mixture loose and crumbly when cooked.
    • Let the mixture rest. Letting the tuna fritter mixture rest gives the eggs and other ingredients time to absorb into the breadcrumbs, creating a cohesive mix that will stay together when cooked.
    • Make the fritters a uniform size. Avoid burning and undercooking these fritters by making them all the same size as well as the same thickness.
    • Lay them on paper towels when they are done cooking. Excess oil can be absorbed from the fritters by placing them on a plate with paper towels once they are done frying.

    Variations to this Recipe

    • Add Sriracha. Give these Tuna Fritters some heat by adding Sriracha to the mixture before frying. Just be careful when mixing with your bare hands.
    • Make it gluten-free. You can substitute the Panko bread crumbs with gluten-free Panko or homemade bread crumbs made from gluten-free bread.
    • Add other seasonings. Try this recipe with the addition of Old Bay seasoning, cayenne pepper, chili powder, garlic powder, or cumin.
    • Make these fritters with lemon juice. Adding lemon juice to the mixture gives them a bright, citrusy flavor that is so good with seafood.

How to Store and Reheat it

Store these Tuna Fritters in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. You can also freeze them once they have cooled. Just separate them with wax paper and store them in a freezer ziplock bag for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight and reheat in the microwave, on the stovetop, or in the oven.

    What to Serve this with

    • Grains. Serve this dish over or alongside a plate of grains, such as with Rice with Mushrooms, Spanakorizo (Greek Spinach Rice), Tabouli Salad, Mediterranean Quinoa Salad, or Quinoa with Mushrooms and Feta.
    • Proteins. Pair these fritters with some Air Fryer Pork Chops, Ahi Tuna Steaks, Crispy Fried Tofu, or Roasted Pepper Stuffed Chicken Breast.
    • Vegetables. Enjoy them with a side dish of Steamed Broccoli Rabe, Roasted Asparagus, Garlic Roasted Brussels Sprouts Recipe, or Taco Roasted Okra.
    • Potatoes. Serve your Tuna Fritters with some Pan-Fried Parmesan Potatoes, Roasted Fingerling Potatoes, Roasted Baby Potatoes, or a Twice Baked Potato Casserole.
