Tips for the best Steamed Brussels Sprouts

    • Choose high-quality Brussels sprouts. Look for ones that are firm and with tightly furled leaves, and no dark spots. Brussels sprouts that are about 1" in diameter are sweeter than larger ones that can be bitter.
    • Trim the Brussels sprouts. Take off any wilted or dry leaves from the Brussels sprouts so what is left is tightly furled and dark green for the best flavor.
    • Salt the water. Salting the water that the sprouts are cooked in will infuse them with flavor much better than salting them after the fact.
    • Salt to preference. When you are done cooking these Steamed Brussels Sprouts, salt them to your preference. If they are perfect as is, then leave them be and serve.

    Variations to this Recipe

    • Add garlic. Give this dish more flavor by adding some minced garlic to the Steamed Brussels Sprouts for a pungent and aromatic addition.
    • Make it with lemon juice. For a citrusy note, add some fresh lemon juice for an extra flavor that really complements the richness of this buttered veggie.
    • Add bacon. For a savory note, add some crispy crumbled bacon to these Brussels sprouts. This will give them a meaty flavor that goes perfectly with the bitterness of these little cabbages.
    • Add balsamic vinegar. A little acidity adds great flavor. This sweet and tangy vinegar matches well with its rich and slightly bitter flavor.

How to Store and Reheat it

Store these Steamed Brussels Sprouts in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat them in the microwave or on the stovetop before serving.

    What to Serve this with

    • Proteins. Serve this side dish with some Air Fryer Pork Chops, Ahi Tuna Steak, Stuffed Chicken Breast, or Salmon in Creamy Sauce.
    • Pasta. Pair these Steamed Brussels Sprouts with Rasta Pasta, Squid Ink Pasta with Shrimp, Cheesy Cavatappi Pasta, or Radiatore Pasta in Creamy Sauce.
