Where to buy mackerel?
I am using Canned Mackerel in Brine in this recipe. It could be found in many large grocery stores, such as WalMart, in canned seafood section, right next to anchovies and sardines. Of course, you can buy canned Mackerel on Amazon. There are several brands out there (such as Bumble Bee, Polar, Chicken of the Sea) and they all work well.

Hello how can I obtain your BBQ sauce recipe for these delicious patties?
Hi Keith! The recipe is in the post above 🙂 Here it is: Mix a ¼ cup of mayo with a ¼ cup of BBQ sauce and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Happy cooking!
Do you use fresh or dried breadcrumbs?
I use dried breadcrumbs, but fresh ones also can be used. Happy cooking, Jill!
MAKE THIS!!! It’s extremely tasty!!! I added freshly grated parmesan and green onions instead of scallions. I was extremely skeptical at first but now these will be a must when I’m craving fish/crab cakes. The bones didn’t all come out which was fine, I just made sure the main center of the bone was out and they turned out fantastic. I also used a mixture of olive oil and avocado oil and just seared them a bit longer so they weren’t saturated in oil. I would highly recommend these. My first time ever having mackerel and we’re already searching for our next meal with it. Thank you for the recipe this was perfect!!!
Thank you so much, Amy! It means a lot to me!
Hi Amy - I eat mackerel all the time with salad but never thought to make Pattie’s. Love the idea. Can I use mackerel in olive oil for this recipe?
427 calories in what? One pattie? Two?
This looks like a great dish but you need to tell the serving size… thanks
Hi Brian! The whole recipe makes two servings. So divide the number of patties you'll end up by two. Nutrition is provided per serving. Enjoy!
I’m making this recipe today but I’m adding chopped sun dried tomatoes to the recipe.
Sounds great! I hope you enjoyed the recipe, Barbara!
