How about a Beet Smoothie, people? I know it might sound strange, but it is a true delight. This smoothie has wonderful taste, gorgeous color, and a very impressive list of health benefits. You definitely don’t want to skip this one, friend.

Being a Ukrainian, I am a huge beet fan. We use this super-vegetable very often in soups and salads, but adding beetroot to a smoothie is something fairly new to me. I started making beet smoothies about a year ago, and I love them so much! I’ve tried many beet smoothie combinations, and the recipe I am sharing with you today is my favorite. Let’s just take a moment and discuss the main ingredients.

    About the Beets

I just want to mention that it is important to get your hands on some good beets for this smoothie. Since you are going to consume them raw, ideally you’ll want to use early-crop beets, which are usually sold in bunches with the tops attached. Small, young beets (about 2-3 inches in diameter) are pleasingly tender and sweet. However, regular medium-sized beets will also work. Just make sure they don’t taste bitter before you add them to your smoothie.

    Beet Smoothie Health Benefits

Beets have an impressive nutritional profile. They are very high in valuable vitamins and minerals. In fact, they contain a bit of almost all the vitamins and minerals that you need. Beets help lower blood pressure, fight inflammation, improve digestive health, and they have cancer-fighting properties. Read more here: 9 Impressive Health Benefits of Beets

Besides beets, this smoothie is made with bananas (full of fiber and antioxidants), pineapples (high amounts of vitamin C and manganese), and plain yogurt (probiotics, calcium, phosphorus, vitamin D).

    Beet Smoothie FAQs

Can I use fresh pineapple instead? Yes. Just add ½ cup of ice with the fresh pineapple.

What kind of yogurt should I use? Regular or Greek plain yogurt will work in this recipe.

Dairy-free alternative? Sure. You may choose to substitute regular yogurt for dairy-free (soy, coconut) yogurt or milk.

Can i substitute a peach or something? I can't eat even a quarter of a banana in a smoothie without gagging, Weird i know, but even as a baby i couldn't do it according to Mom. My sister is the opposit and can't eat beets-go figure.

Hi Patricia! The best substitute would be a pear. Peach could also be used. I am sorry about the annoying music. What that an ad on the video?

What can you use in place of the yogurt if you can’t have dairy ? Can you use coconut milk as an alternative?

I think so. I have never used or tried beetroot powder, so I can't be sure. Definitely worth trying.

Hi Michelle! Yes. I'd say use about 1/2 cup of beet juice per one large banana. You can regulate the thickness of the smoothie yourself. Let me know if you try it!

The only difference between a regular beet and an organic beet is the way it's grown. There isn't any difference in size, shape or flavor.
