    This Easy Baked Cabbage is a tasty vegan side dish that you're going to love. Full of flavor and roasted to perfection, this easy to make veggie is delicious.

    This Easy Baked Cabbage is so yummy. It's roasted with garlic powder, paprika, and butter, which adds tons of flavor. While cabbage doesn't have a lot of taste on its own, baking it in the oven softens the shredded leaves and allows them to absorb all the deliciousness of the other ingredients. This preparation is so much more flavorful than boiling or eating it raw.

    Cabbage is a great vegetable to work with because it has such a great texture when cooked and can complement a variety of dishes. It's also inexpensive and versatile. This simple recipe makes creating a cabbage dish super easy. With some basic ingredients and spices, you can produce a great meal or side with very little prep work.     Main Ingredients

    • Cabbage. We'll be using a green cabbage for this recipe.
    • Butter. I used plant-based butter to make a vegan version, but if you prefer regular butter, that's fine, too. Olive oil can also be used.
    • Seasonings. Garlic powder, paprika, and salt.

    How to Make Baked Cabbage

    1. Cut the cabbage into quarters, and then cut out the core. Slice each quarter and then cut it crosswise to create thin shreds of cabbage.

    2. Place the cabbage shreds into a large mixing bowl, and add the paprika, garlic powder, and salt. Melt the butter and pour it over the other ingredients. Mix well.

    3. Transfer the cabbage into a large baking tray. Using a wooden spoon or spatula, smooth the seasoned cabbage until it lays evenly across the pan.

    4. Bake it for about 25 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, or until it is cooked through and nicely roasted around the edges. Serve immediately.

    Tips for Making Easy Baked Cabbage

    • Cut the cabbage evenly. Make sure that you cut the cabbage leaves into similar sizes so that the shreds cook evenly. If some are small and some are large, you'll land up with a mixture of hard and limp shreds.
    • Mix everything well before baking. With the melted butter acting as the glue for the spice mix, make sure you mix the ingredients thoroughly for an even coating of seasoning. This will ensure that each bite tastes just right.
    • Serve warm. This baked cabbage tastes best warm. Once it cools, the butter may solidify a little, so serve it right out of the oven or warm it before serving leftovers.

    Add-ins for this Dish

    • Protein. If you don't want a vegan meal, you can add slices of sausage, cubes of ham, or diced tofu. Just toss them in with the rest of the ingredients and bake them all together.
    • Different spices. Depending on your preference, you may want to try different spices in this dish. Curry powder, taco seasoning, berbere, cayenne pepper, and turmeric are all good options.
    • Add some more vegetables. To make this a more robust dish, add some sliced onions, diced red pepper, or chunks of potato. These add flavor to the cabbage as well as make for a more filling meal.

    • As is. For a low-carb or keto vegan meal, this baked cabbage works great.
    • Over rice. Warm rice tastes so good with this.
    • Alongside meat. Baked cabbage complements salty meat varieties, like sausage, ham, etc. But try it with your favorite chicken and beef dishes, too, and see what you think.

    How to Store Baked Cabbage

    To store this Baked Cabbage, place it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will last for up to 5 days. If you want to store it long-term, then you can also freeze it for up to 12 months in a ziplock freezer bag. Thaw overnight in the fridge and warm it in the oven when you are ready to serve.

      I love this. I made it just to use the coleslaw mix I had leftover. I added some ground pepper to it just because I love pepper. It ended up way better than I thought it was gonna. Also, it was VERY filling. As a person who had gastric bypass it is perfect for me.

      Wow... impressive, powerful, easy & taste filling recipe. I did a few substitutes (purple cabbage, red pepper vs paprika). Hubby enjoyed every bite. Definitely our new way of cooking cabbage. Because of preference I cooked ours a little longer. Don’t miss out on this treat.
